Review:

Elbow Cay is off the mainland of Marsh Harbour. You have to take a ferry there - it is about a 20 minute ride. It was a $12 cab ride to the ferry dock and $10 per person for the ferry. Marsh Harbour is more of a city but even as you get close to Elbow Cay you know it is different. You see a candy striped lighthouse and bright Victorian style homes along the harbor. This is one of my favorite places to stay in the Bahamas. It has some nightlife and all the privacy you want..

Elbow Cay is approximately 6 miles long and 1/4 mile wide. A magnificent barrier reef protects the long sandy beaches, making them perfect for swimming, snorkeling, diving, and fishing.

The settlement on Elbow Cay is Hope Town, a small 18th century picturesque village built around a protected harbor. The village, located between a beautiful beach and the harbor, has perhaps 300 permanent residents and is reminiscent of a New England fishing village set in the tropics. Its main street, the Queen's Highway, is 8 foot wide and no cars are allowed in the village. There are two town docks for your use and a marina where gas can be purchased. There are three grocery stores (one with its own dock), a liquor store, a bank, a hardware store, and a small drug store, as well as several gift shops and artist studios.
