Staniel Cay Yacht Club

Review:
The Staniel Cay Yacht Club is the only place to stay on this small island but you do not need anywhere else. The cottages are built directly over the water and the main lodge is a cute place with a friendly bar. They will rent you a boat or snorkeling equipment for your trip. This is one of those places int he islands where boaters and pilots mix and it is a nice crowd. The food is okay - typical island fare - but the location makes up for it.

This is a great place for an overnight or a couple of nights. I is also good for lunch, you can just park at the airport and take a quick walk through the town of colorful houses to get to a great little bar. The resort has great cabins right on the water. There is a lot of fishing and scuba activity. We rented a boat and went to the "Thunderball Cave" location where they actually filmed the movie.

We stayed in Georgetown for a night - customs was a bit of a hassle - they did not seem to now what they were doing and didn't care that much. The cab to town was expensive - $25 - the next time we will get a car. The town itself is definitely run down a bit - they are trying to bring in more business but it will take a while. It is a typical out island small town, fishermen pulling up boats to docks and a lot of local hanging out at the local watering hole. They are building a lot of more resorts on this island so I think we will check them out in the future.

This place was horrible. We looked in the room and turned around and walked right out. On the upside it does have a little bar that overlooks the main drag in town.

This place is always written up in pilot journals and we had to stop by. the lodging was standard out island style, noting fancy but it was clean. We met the owners of the resort, they were very nice people and very interested in how they could market to more pilots. There are nicer places now on the island - the four seasons has moved in - but if you are looking for something cheap in town this is it.
